Honestly, though, I was a teenager back when the speed limit was lowered to 55, and an adult when it was raised later on. It did help, as did keeping daylight savings time all year. I wound up waiting for the school bus in the dark, but most of the people I knew understood why such drastic measures were being taken. We were addicted to oil, and there wasn't enough of it. It is really too bad we spent so long ridiculing the "greenies" instead of fixing the root causes of our energy problems. I hope we get our heads out of the sand soon. This great country is already on its knees and we are so myopic we can't even see it.
