I'm new into Ubuntu as well... love it so far, but it does have a learning curve. My suggestion would be to log into Synaptic and search for 'flash'. Select everything that it reports as being loaded and uninstall it. Close synaptic, and open FF. Go to any website that requires Flash, and when prompted, download and install the flash plugin. This way you end up with the version of flash that FF wants you to have. Hope it helps!
