(This is a new record, two ProFox posts in two days. For me, at least.
I'm reeling in shock. As many of you are, no doubt.)

So I got a new box a while ago and had to put XP on it. It's the guy I
do all my Fox development on; there's nothing else on it from MSFT other
than what I absolutely have to have installed to run Fox. No SQL Server,
no email, no Office, no nothing. If a day goes by without needing Fox,
the box gathers dust.

Ever since I installed XP, I've been getting quirky behavior. You know
how you can set up a box so that folks with various disabilities can use
it? For example, the sticky keys feature enables someone who types with
one hand to use Shift/Ctrl/Alt in combo with other keys.

(In the olden days, those folks would fill the toe of a nylon with sand,
and then roll it on one of the aforementioned shift/alt/ctrl keys to
hold it down while they then pressed another key. If you're thinking of
Indiana Jones grabbing the golden idol in the beginning of the first IJ
movie, you've got it exactly right.)

So there are these accessibility controls in XP. I swear I've turned
them all off, because my only disability is between the ears. But I'm
still getting sticky keys behavior.

To wit: Every once in a while, maybe every couple of weeks or so, the UI
would act as if I was holding the shift key down. I'd be in a text
editor and as I moved the mouse, everything would get highlighted. I'd
alt-tab to Explorer and try to select a file. All of the files from the
top to the one I clicked on would be highlighted. (These are the only
two apps I use on this box, so I can't describe any other behavior.)

I've thought that maybe I was absent-mindedly parking a finger on one of
the ancillary keys to turn this behavior on, so haven't worried that muc
about it. It is a pain, though, because I have to cold boot the damn box
to get it to stop. Simply logging out and back in isn't enough.

I've been living with this cuz rebooting a Windows box every week or two
is just good practice. But it's happened twice this afternoon. The
second time I _know_ I wasn't dinking around with the keyboard.

Any suggestions?

Whil
