Is this a ThinkPad? I've had trouble with the keyboard on my T61p,
where the Shift keys aren't sensitive enough. Especially annoying when
typing in passwords. I've also noticed some of the cursor arrow keys
need to be pressed firmly all the way down to pick up. I'm thinking
the quality of the keyboard unit is the problem. A sticky key would be
another symptom I'd expect...

And I'm running Fedora, so I don't think it's an OS problem, but
rather hardware...
