I'll just highlight the book of Isaiah in the bible that states some of the hostility in that region around Late 700 BC. The Oracles that state all the destruction to the surrounding communities for their destruction of Judea and Israel. So this still a frustrated area with a very different form of religion today, but still battles must be fought for control.
