There are issues -- aren't there always? I don't have specific
experience with the Brother multi-functions, so you'll need to see
what the manufacturer can tell you about that.

Printing to network servers are pretty well established, standardized
technologies: IPP, TCP/IP, IPX/SPX and so forth.

Faxing and talking to the scanner and other functions depend on having
drivers on the PC that know how to communicate with the network
device, typically over proprietary prototcols. HP uses extentions to
their JetTalk.

That said, we use a wired HP OfficeJet from Linux, OS X and Windows
XP/2000 without too many issues. Some machines have drivers that lack
duplex options; others have local firewalling that frustrate the
faxing or scanning. We've been able to resolve most of the issues if
necessary, or just walk over to the print and fax manually.
