Apparently, the military lawyer representing him came up with a plan should he be found not guilty and be released. He was supposed to live with his grandparents, a couple who are moderate Muslims, and finish his schooling in the public school system. As well they had a list of people with whom he was not to associate with.
Whether any of these detainees were tortured will come out in the wash. I doubt this "kid" will rejoin the forces. The very least, they've put the fear of incarceration into him.
