Dave, What address do they use for these updates?

The only way I've ever been able to successfully block Windows Update is to ban the address in my firewall. One trend I've seen recently from Microsoft is that they are "suggesting" you turn it on during installations of their add-ons like Silverlight. I sat there and watched someone I work with instinctively just click next, next , next during the install of SL and along the way they turned automatic updates back on. As silverlight defaults to automatically update itself all by itself ( though that can be configured to not self update ) it strikes me as remarkably pathetic that MS would feel the need to stick this 'gotcha' back into the installer. I come to my laptop this morning and find that it's been rebooted and then a friendly "Your computer was updated!" message appears. I go to check the setting and it was (re-?)set to Automatic updates where Windows downloads and applies them at will. I know I'm 100% sure because recently Windows wanted to download yet another "Windows Genuine Advantage" update and I was saying "no freakin way...you've already put that on and and updates in that are not welcome." Grrr....this is what causes a person to really dislike a vendor---one who doesn't respect the settings/wishes you've selected!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
