If you have a linux box at home, you could setup SSH, use PuTTY with Dynamic,
or similar port forwarding through one of the open ports you don't need for
other means. SSH connections are on 22. Google “poor man’s VPN”. I was
visiting my parents over Christmas and couldn't send emails through my default
SMTP server. I set this up and made a new "Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings" to
use it.

YMMV,

Tracy

Nope, they don't rely on it. I need it when I have doubts or need to google
something when programming. Problem is the admins are not knowledgeable blokes,
so when in doubt they block everything. I think they haven't blocked twitter
just because they don't know about it. I was hoping to find an http workaround
in order to be able to get my mail at work. Currently I get my mail at home and
then read it at work.
