Or it could be the toss of data between servers all within the same app. I could set up my invoicing BizApp <middle tier> on it's own server so at the end of the day I can process all orders shipped the previous day on it's own box. That may have been initiated from a web page or a local client app?? that same box may do all the shipping through the day, afternoon till the last truck arrives.
