Charlie, don't get me wrong. I don't have enough knowledge on the
subject, I've never coded any web app or web service, but your arguments
sounded reasonable enough, and some counter arguments were invalid and I
wanted to point them out, it is a very interesting subject.
I guess if I had to code some web service I'd go the XML way. It is
easier to code (the libraries are everywhere). I wouldn't go straight to
a binary format because it would be optimizing before it is needed.
Later, if there are problems with speed/size and if I determine XML is
the culprit, I would look for a
proper binary solution, but not before.
