I also have autoupdates turned off. But M$ has decided to ignore that setting for updates they deem too important to not get out there. There was an article about that in PC World recently. The same issue that bit Carl bit me with my AMD 2900 machine. So far my old tricks are useless. I have a Ghost image, but no time to dink with it yet. I merely copied my backed up VMWare machine files onto a different PC and let 'er rip. One of the nice things about using VMware or any other Virtual Machine. If you have copies of the virtual machine(s) you can use them anywhere.
