Well in that case the term "liberal" isn't as confusing as it sounds in the
name. ;)

More seriously, real "classical liberalism" is what unleashed the free
market and put real power in the hands of the hoi polloi. The modern version
is just a euphemism for the totalitarian/monarchical "reaction" to that kind
of liberalism. Conservatism is more of a disposition that is very different
from context to context than an organized set of principles you can build a
lasting party on. In America classical liberals are often confused with
conservatives and are also called "conservatives" but in many other places
folks holding similar views are called liberals. Hence, I guess, the name of
your "conservative" party.
