Oops. You don't want to go there, with me. :-)

We live in the boonies, have a spring that gives water (without
electricity) year round, heat with wood, and can't get TV signals in
this area. (Stephentown, NY, if you want to Google Earth it - Note that
it's in a hollow surrounded by mountains. No TV signals.)

When the power goes out we usually don't know about it until nightfall,
and usually enjoy it, unless it becomes extended. (It's bizarre how
quiet and peaceful the house becomes). Cooking food is absolutely no
problem on the wood stove, and we always have oil lamps and candles on
stand-by.

So honestly, to answer your point, for the first few days, it's actually
fun.

Of course, what kills me after a few hours is.... NO INTERNET!

I do have a few (Insert derogatory word for anti-tech people here - I'm
drawing a blank) friends who wouldn't even notice that.

But my point (finally) is that we all did without it for all but the
last 100 years, and we'll (have to) do without again, when the oil runs out.
