This is what I use rsync (free) for. You can get a free implementation of 
everything 
PCAnywhere offers using a combination of:

+ VNC Server / Viewer
+ OpenVPN (correctly set up lets you map to remote printers and drives)
+ rsync to keep files of huge size in sync local->remote or remote->local
