His name was Lucifer, the angel of Light -- yea, the very one Eastern
mystics "seek" after in their religious practices. He is the God of this
world, along with a third of the heavenly hosts who are under his dominion,
now given the name Satan or "adversary," having been booted from Heaven for
trying to lead a rebellion against God.

Man was also God's greatest *physical* creation---made in His image, having
body (Jesus), soul (Holy Ghost) and spirit God). And with very little
provocation, man gave Satan authority God gave man over this world when he
succumbed to the desire to have knowledge of good and evil.

There are a lot of layers of meaning in all that, but that's the gist of the
"background story" heading east of Eden.

Clearly, how man and the devil "turned out" is existentially unfolding and
the ultimate meaning God intends to convey by creating all this cosmic drama
is something a bit beyond our pay grade to judge.

Then it's possible to be physically separated if the omnipresence is ONLY
spiritual.

Besides. Ever be in the room with someone but feel 100 miles away? Think
about it.

OK, perhaps I overstate my view of your level of sincerity. I apologize for
that.
