Some Texans feel that way, but most Texans are more
reasonable people. In a survey of cities with a population
over 100,000 people, three of the five most conservative
places to live were in Texas. The top five most
conservative cities were:
1) Provo, Utah - Home of the Mormon Church
2) Lubbock, Texas - A city that does not allow the sale of
any alcoholic beverages.
3) Abilene, Texas - Home of three prominent Christian
Universities listed below. It is also home to the church of
Christ, (eg "The Church").
a. Hardin Simmons University - Southern Baptist
b. Abilene christian University - Church of Christ
c. McMurry University - A Methodist institution
4) Hialeah Florida - Not sure why its rank so high.
5) Plano, Texas - Very upscale Dallas suburb.

Many of the cities in Texas with populations under 100,000
people are far more conservative that those listed above.
In Abilene, home of the "Church", if you are found guilty of
commuting a crime, the jury will almost away hand down the
hashes punishment allow by law. For example, a first time
offender found guilty of selling marijuana would likely
receive a sentence of 99 years in prison. It's reflective
of the values that have been instill in the member of the
community from birth.
