>> But mostly I don't get how you can make the proprietary/closed argument with such smugness.<<
I'm sorry Paul, not sure what came over me. I thought I stated observations that is common knowledge in the industry. I'm not trying to be smug. But how should I observe differently? How many companies run the iPhone OS on their hardware? Not that WinMobile is the holy grail by any stretch of the imagination, but I can get a phone from lots of manufactures that run the OS, from lots of phone companies. And all the apps people can come up with (without any stinking approval process). iPhone is locked into one vendor, one manufacturer and a committee telling me what I can run. Apple is the smug one. Not me. Commodity hardware inside a computer does not make it open. Who can I call to get a computer that runs the Mac OS? Are you defending that they are not closed? It is hard to argue as they have been this way since day 1. Amazon made the same mistake with the Kindle unfortunately. They think they got the world by the short hairs. Yes, they have cool products. They turn that power into a position where they decide what can be purchased, and how you purchase, and then decide they can pull what you bought off the machine you purchased. At least Amazon apologized when they saw the error of their decision. Hopefully Apple will do the same with this app. Rick White Light Computing, Inc. www.whitelightcomputing.com www.swfox.net www.rickschummer.com _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/001201ca116e$f9525e00$ebf71a...@com ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
