A bigger UPS should take care of all of that. Could there be static electricity too?
Sometimes a coffee pot, an air conditioner, or copier is on the same line and that causes problems intermittently. Make sure all the write caching is turned off. Make sure all files are closed when not in use. Another thing you can do in your program is open the file once it's downloaded.
