.NET is being unfairly singled out here. From what I've seen it's much
easier to do fat-client, non-browser CRUD application in .NET than
almost any other comparable platform, like Java for example. At least
with .NET you have everything in Visual Studio (assuming you're using
that). 

And you can certainly knock up a simple CRUD application with an SQL
Server backend in Visual Studio, in 10 minutes.
