http://bit.ly/9ufFqQ - - - In an indictment unsealed Monday, prosecutors said the group began military-style training in the Michigan woods in 2008, learning how to shoot guns and make and set off bombs.
David Brian Stone, 44, of Clayton, Mich., and one of his sons were identified as the ringleaders of the group. Stone, who was known as "Captain Hutaree," organized the group in paramilitary fashion and members were assigned secret names, prosecutors said. Ranks ranged from "radoks" to "gunners," according to the group's Web site. Stone's ex-wife, Donna Stone, told The Associated Press that Stone pulled her son into the movement. Another of Stone's sons also was charged. "It started out as a Christian thing," Donna Stone said. "You go to church. You pray. You take care of your family. I think David started to take it a little too far." - - - Piker. If Stone was really any good as a domestic terrorist, he would have been able to kill actual cops, blow up the Pentagon, and then, on the basis of his many accomplishments, get a tenured position as a "Professor of Education" at the University of Chicago -- maybe even be interviewed by the NYT where he can talk about how his group "didn't do enough" to advance their cause against the government, coincidentally on the very day of an actual terrorist attack against the country. And if he were a TOTALLY AWESOME and unrepentant domestic terrorist, why, he might even have befriended, worked on grant-awarding boards with, and ghost-written memoirs for a future president of the United States. - Publius -- "It ought never to be forgotten, that a firm union of this country, under an efficient government, will probably be an increasing object of jealousy to more than one nation of Europe; and that enterprises to subvert it will sometimes originate in the intrigues of foreign powers, and will seldom fail to be patronized and abetted by some of them. Its preservation, therefore ought in no case that can be avoided, to be committed to the guardianship of any but those whose situation will uniformly beget an immediate interest in the faithful and vigilant performance of the trust."
