Stephen, It's been a full two years since Kaspersky was working in this office. The time to copy a file to/from the network without Kaspersky on the workstation vs. with was 3 and 4 times longer. It would take 2 minutes for a Vista UAC dialog to appear when attempting to run an installer from the network drive. Internet traffic here is slow because of where the office is located. Though a provider is currently running fiber through the complex, perhaps soon fast downloads won't be only at home. So, internet has always been slow, with or without any anti-virus.
