Ken: Do you have anti-virus running on these machines? I recall
running into some awful errors with Word automation when we switched
machines and the other machines AV would hang the file open for longer
than my automation code expected, leading to wacky and misleading
errors. If you can, try disabling it, at least for Word docs, and see
if you're seeing the same problems.

Anti-malware problems on Windows were one of the reasons I gave up on
automation, and ultimately the Windows platform.
