Sorry but I do not agree.  Upgrading brings in new usability and
opportunity matrix.  You as a consultant have to explore what is good
for you to leverage and what will require refactoring in your code
base to continue working.

If you were a Dr. would you entertain talking to the pharma reps on
the new drugs they had, or would you condemn them to taking your
patients money?

Or you make an event driven application and you message between ruby
and .net and whatever else you need to work with.  Sorry but nobody is
tightly bound like you are suggesting.
