Yes, the way to do that is to encourage capital formation and
investment in domestic labor. This will achieve the exact opposite.

It's not about trading for trade's sake. It's about per capita capital
investment in domestic production.

If we were serious about that, we would not be burdening domestic
producers with massive unfathomable regulations (like ObamaCare, which
is only one of three or four 3,000-page (largely unread) bills passed
in the last 18 months that will have long, painful consequences), and
saddling future generations with the bill for entitlements to
non-producers today. We would be eliminating the income tax and
focusing instead on a flat ad-valorem tariff on articles of foreign
manufacture -- this was the sole revenue source for a strong but
limited federal government that allowed our land to accumulate capital
over a hundred and fifty years to produce the highest standards of
living ever known in human history.

But we've frittered it all away in this suicidal quest to integrate
with the rest of the world. Quite predictably -- go back and look at
the debates -- we are now on the verge of becoming a third world
nation.
