Yep, if you have access to an eSTAT/USB port, or even just a eSTAT port, on another computer, you could see if it worked there. If so, the problem could be localize to something going wrong in the laptop's hardware. Also, you might see what happens using another OS like Linux. If you had Clonezilla, Knoppix, Gparted or some other live CD, and could boot into one of them, that might help. The problem might be more obvious using a current version of Linux booted off a live CD. If this is getting to be to much trouble, you could return your laptop or request a replacement.
