In college my senior year (1985) I talked one of my profs to let me do a
self study year long project - I needed to bump up my GPA and it was
going to be an almost certain "A" grade...

Pretty cool project really - did a visual presentation on Orbital
Kinematics that displayed all the planets on a log scale moving in time
sequence... lots of hardness to overcome - had to approx a 9th order set
of partial differential equations (translated: U.G.L.Y) into a workable
algorithm that would run on an Apple II...

Spent all year on that thing, dropped it off for him to review/grade and
watched him set it on top of the external drive he had hooked up to his
own machine... we went off to class, came back, and that damned disk
would NOT be read on his machine... Somehow, can't remember why, but
this one floppy was my only copy.... yepper -one whole year of work down
the drain...

Still got the A though...
