I think my client is starting to wonder why my IT time (I'm predominantly their software programmer, but I've also performed the role of IT/Sysadmin/NetAdmin) is continually rising. When I started them on NT4 and Linux/Samba, workstations were a snap to setup and administer. I could role out a new Dell system in under an hour, with all their apps installed and working, and maintenance was a snap, too. Compare that to today, where it seems to take much longer to role out a new Win7 system, and maintenance isn't as easy, either. I agree that WinXP probably had the optimal mix of security, usability, and performance, among the MS operating systems. Good thing Mozilla is releasing Firefox4 to XP, even if Microsoft isn't doing the same with IE9... Why is Microsoft even bothering with Internet Explorer anymore?
