Christina,

I agree with Paul that the problem will be with the volume of data that has to be sucked through the wire for index files, so, obviously, it would be a great advantage to avoid the old temptation of indexing everything "just because we can and might need it some day." Keep indexes small and few.

What has me re-thinking this is that the speeds now commonly available at a reasonable cost are approaching 25 megabits per second (no, that's not megaBYTES, but it's a far cry from 2 megabits.)

I actually have a cloud drive set up with Rackspace like I mentioned earlier...If I get a little time in the next day or so I'll set up a test and report back how it works. My main reason to ask the list if they had experience was to avoid wasting my time setting up the trial.

Mike

Will be following this thread with great interest Mike. I've been thinking
about doing just that also.

I've looked into FoxInCloud as well, but there were lots of changes I had to
make to the system to get it FoxInCloud ready and I don't have time to do
that.

Now if only there was a service where I could upload the project and someone
from FoxInCloud could do that for me.... (yes, I'm dropping a BIG hint)

Subject: Crazy?

Here's what might be a crazy idea...

Instead of using a local Windows or Linux box as a file server for DBF
files...

What if someone were to set up a Windows share drive from a Cloud drive
service...like Rackspace offers?

Would that file share source be
a) acceptable to Foxpro for file locks, buffers, etc
b) prone to index corruption
c) speedy enough to serve the purpose?

I'm thinking of a situation where multiple distant locations need to access
the same files, with mostly reading but some updating.

Anyone doing that? Anyone aware of a reason it would be a bad idea?

I guess the main point would be the speed of the Internet connection...
