The right tool for the job.... Are you married to the idea of using DBF's ?

Unless I'm missing something this sounds like a perfect scenario for
client/server and backends like MS SQL Server, postgreSQL and/or
mySQL....

The classic 'reduced record set theory' tosses indexes out the window
in the first place...

Or am I just too late afternoon punchy to see what is really going on here?
