Wouldn't bet it's a 'progeny' problem. Not sure XFree86
likes the SIS 6326. I've had problems with that card under
Caldera eServer 2.3. As I remember, it doesn't support the
VGA16 mode that most graphical installs use (XF86Setup,
etc.) Recommendation (from Caldera?) was to use the
text-based xf86config command and set things up manually.

Try the 'secondstage=text' approach to get Progeny on.
Once you have XFree86 on, you should be able to configure
it. Can't tell you the exact commands since I haven't got
that approach to work yet myself, but I've got cheapbyte
cds. Been playing with SUSE, Kylix and more Caldera lately
anyway.
Hopefully someone else can be more specific. Seems to be a
common card for Windows servers. Maybe later XFree86
drivers will handle the card better. A slightly better
choice would be a Diamond Stealth 2500 (Alliance chipset).
Store around here sells 'em for $20. It seemed to work
better under eServer 2.3.
One other opinion...Under Windoze 98SE, I've found the older
4MB 6326 to be less quirky than the newer 8MB 6326. Haven't
tested that theory exhaustively, though.
