I posted a while back with the exact same Sis6326 first stage install
problem. It's the first stage which fails, not the second, and setting
secondstage=text makes no odds. In the meantime the only
non-computer-surgical way to get Progeny onto a computer with onboard
SiS6326 appears to be to shoehorn it on with Storm or Debian vanilla.
However my problem with partitions on my i810 machine seem to have
disappeared since using the partitioning software provided for installing
Mandrake. Bizarrely my Windows install started to see a non-existent FAT
partition, weird. I got bored of Mandrake and reinstalled Progeny over it
without the partitioning problems I saw before (odd considering the anomaly
experienced in Windows). Anyway all seems to be well so I'm not grumbling on
that count. But please sort out the SiS6326! I'd guess upgrading the first
stage installer X-server to 4.0.3/4.1 would fix this?
With regard to the performance, XF4 states that the SiS6326 can only address
4MB of RAM at time. So maybe there is some kind of paging overhead
accounting for the performance disadvantage you witness with the 8MB
SiS6326? Otherwise I would be very keen to see paging incorporated into the
XF4 SiS module. All I know is that XF4 performance is considerably worse
than Win98SE with my 8MB RAM chipset and maybe performance varies according
to usage.
