This is the first I've heard of 'dpkg-reconfigure pppconf', but I
decided to check it out. From my experience, it is a poor substitute
for 'pppconfig'.
'pppconf' asked me if it could check for a modem. If I refused, it
exited. So I let it. It then asked me minimal stuff, like
username/password and access number. It then looked for the modem,
failed to find it (I could have told it I had a WinModem, but it didn't
care about my opinions on that) and emitted some error message.
Now 'pppconfig', it lets me have multiple accounts, lets me select the
modem device, asks about DNS information (static, dynamic, etc.) and
other things I forget. And it is useful through 'pppconfig', not
through an *obscure* helper. Obscure? Sure. Tell me a tutorial that
mentions it. Not the O'Reilly book. I don't think the Progeny manual
does, either.
So, emboldened by the information given me I discover
'gnome-dpkg-reconfigure'. Calling that up, I get a selector for various
scripts. That is OK, except that 'pppconf' isn't one of them.
So, I'm sticking with pppconfig, *wherever* I can get it from.
