I have success when installing Progeny Newton on a laptop dual booting
Win 98. No fear at all.
I now want to install Progeny on my desktop, which already has a Windows
NT 4 setup.
I currently have NT on /dev/hda1 and /dev/hda2.
I want to install Progeny on /dev/hdb1 (/home), /dev/hdb2 (swap) and
/dev/hdb3 (/). When done, I want to have the NT boot loader let me boot
either NT or Linux. I still need NT on this box for this, that, and
transition purposes.
I don't really see a "dual boot with Grub and NT HOW-TO" file out there,
at least one that seems coherent. I do have a decent "dual boot with
LILO and NT HOW-TO", and I'm willing to use LILO in this circumstance.
My computer is so old that it only supports, what, 4 GB or 8 GB hard
disks. So /dev/hda is 4 GB and /dev/hdb is 3.5 GB. I think that the
1024 cylinder limitation that is/was with LILO is a concern.
With the Progeny, graphical install, it asks me if I want to install
Grub, use some other, or install nothing. I think...
* If I install Grub, then this will overwrite the boot sector on
/dev/hda and wreck my NT install. That happened big-time when I last
tried Mandrake, so I don't want that.
* If I select "some other", then LILO, perhaps, will overwrite.
* I think I will select "nothing", and with the "create boot floppy", I
can boot my Linux until I can perform the magic of the dual-boot HOW-TO.
So I do that, and what I get for a floppy are a couple of empty
directories.
Hmm... what must I do to complete my Progeny installation, not wreck my
NT loader on /dev/hda, and let me do the HOW-TO later?
