Eric, I have given your corrected table editor a try on Chrome under windows 7 and it works just fine. I agree with you that automatically handling numeric/character conversions is a pit you don't want to fall into. If you leave this to J it would be nice to specify a J verb that is executed when "save" is pressed to do whatever conversion the user deems appropriate. We could hack this by changing your JavaScript, (This is JavaScript's greatest strength - users can always look at the code), but a simple box naming a monadic verb would be appreciated.
