You do realize that upward compatibility is not part of the J mission. This

I would like to conduct a Grid API Usability test.
I blew some dust off my old grid scripits and found out that all of them
do not work any more. The question would be, what is the point of using
grid if it is virtually guaranteed that your apps that use it will not
work in the next version?
