Thanks!  I haven't used Excel in so long, I don't even think of it
anymore (I use J or perhaps OO.o).  When I did as you described, I found
I also had GS4Word installed, and I had to uncheck a couple of rdcom
instances there.  Now I can launch and close Excel with impunity.
