Hello Geoff;

That was as good an answer as I could expect. Thanks.

No, it is exactly a Project Euler problem, but it seems to me there are two forms of cheating:

1. I am trying to help others learn how to solve a Project Euler problem without doing the work. 2. I am trying to get help in solving a Project Euler problem without doing the work myself.

On 1, I didn't identify the question as a Project Euler problem, and frankly the idea that I could help anyone solve Project Euler problems in J is laughable. I discovered J as a result of Project Euler (you see people post "here's my one-line solution in J" enough times as you start to get curious) but I only use J as a hobby, so as anyone who's read my posts here will tell you, I'm still a hack J programmer. ;-)

On 2, I only posted code that _already worked_ for the limited purpose I stated, and asked if it was any good (it wasn't). But it _did_ solve the problem I stated, so it's not like I was asking for help solving something I couldn't figure out -- which again is not the whole Project Euler problem.

So I feel pretty comfortable with myself ethically, but what do you think?

As a side note, I've solved about fifty Project Euler problems, something like five of them since I started using J to do so. I coded every solution myself, not that you have any reason to believe that.

As a further side note, I still haven't solved the Project Euler problem in question. But no hints, please. ;-)

regards,

Geoff

If you can tell me your line of questioning has nothing to do with a Project Euler question, other than bein math-related of course, please excuse. Having seen these kinds of questions

posed here before, I'm just wondering if others are making the same inference.

Has this forum become the Project Euler cheat forum?

Your statement is unclear; how am I cheating?
