An alternative is to install ubuntu on the same NTFS partition of windows ... I 
forgot the process ... its starts with "w" ... its on the tip of my tongue ... 

That works btw, won't kill your windows install and integrates with windows 
boot manager. Just can't seem to remember what its called ...

As much as I like *nix, it may be worth mentioning for the one or two
not familiar with this that the process so described leads one to have
the opportunity to install Ubuntu ... just so someone doesn't
unknowingly erase important information. :-)
