I do not own "backtick", I just happened to be the first person to edit it. I also have to make the embarrassing admission that I did not refer to the definition of ` to write that page; I just jotted down what I (thought) "already knew" about ` . Poor research for a reference, to say the least. So oversights are likely. That said, I believe that ~ applied to nouns only accepts names (strings), not gerunds/atomic reps (boxes). But I need to check, and certainly it would belong on this page if it did. Thanks for the heads up. -Dan PS: Never understood why ~ wouldn't accept arbitrary J code (like ". does), rather than just a name. Please excuse typos; composed on a handheld device. -----Original Message----- From: Brian Schott <schott.br...@gmail.com> Date: Mon, 8 Feb 2010 17:04:05 To: Programming forum<programming@jsoftware.com> Subject: Re: [Jprogramming] The Accessible Dictionary Dan, That is a bow tie. It is beautiful and more than that, it is extremely useful. Great job. I especially liked your use of analogy and your variety of description. I wonder if more discussing of how ~ is used to evoke a gerund would be valuable, here or elsewhere. -- (B=) <-----my sig Brian Schott ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
