Strictly speaking the addons are just that - addons.

The addons are often created by users and added as a utility/lab/demo/etc
and it is basically up to the "owner" of said addon to upgrade it or allow
someone else to do it.

You need to get J6 to look for printf.ijs as has been suggested or wait for
Henry to upgrade it as he said he is about to do.

J7 base is and has been very stable for a long time and moved out of beta a
long time ago.

It was decided to move a number of the addons untested from J6 to J7 in
order for the user community to work on them.

It is a very different approach to earlier releases and has been more
positive than negative.

It is actually amazing how much has already been done and how much is
really working compared to the huge change that has been made.

Those who do need the J6 way of things and look for the stability that is
there can obviously continue to use it.

The difference is then if you do stay in J6 that it is not being developed
further.

The J7 guis JHS and GTK are very much different from the J6 gui so anything
relying on the old gui needs to be changed.

Anything not needing the old gui may likely work unchanged.
