It may be worth to mention that with cited/refersto/citedby operators the
citation searches were behaving exactly as you say, i.e. not forcing any
sort/rank options upon the user, keeping the usual search defaults. The
question of defaults was only with respect to pre-fabricated `Cited by 123
records` links. Here, as we mused about it on the chat, arguably the best
solution is to try to respect any sort/rank options that a given user
might have selected when getting to the given dynamic page display. I've
just implemented that and I'm going to commit in a minute. So the
question stays mostly only for those `Cited by 123 records` links that we
pre-format in a static context, such as for webcoll-generated search
interface pages. Here I kept the citation ranking being offered as
previously for the time being. But these issues are not of direct impact
for INSPIRE, because we don't have collections yet. (Moreover, the latest
acquisitions are rarely already cited when they enter the system.) So I
think we should be mostly fine now that dynamic context respects sort/rank
options. BTW we may have to revisit this issue again in the future
perhaps when various recommender boxes will enter the game.
