b) sounds good to me and it works, and it is my preferred solution, but
I also think a) + c) is not too bad either. I mean, we could offer both
solutions so that each individual can use what they prefer.

Because I think its useful to have the option to send e-mail directly to
tickets as it should frankly be an near obligatory feature in any issue
tracking system. (See Trac's own ticket about this feature here:
http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/250 ). People could then
subscribe/un-subscribe to mails on a ad-hoc basis.

Now I have not looked further at email2trac, but it would perhaps be
good idea to re-visit it and see if it has become more usable and works.
