You can find the "new DEM solution" for irregular soil grains in Chrono DEM-E <https://github.com/projectchrono/DEM-Engine>, and the demo script is here <https://github.com/projectchrono/DEM-Engine/blob/main/src/demo/DEMdemo_Plow.cpp>. You can use it in Python as well: Please refer to DEM-E's readme document.
