What Andy Gulliver says is true. Fortunately, there's a work around that allows
me to auto-route different segments of my ``ground'' with different widths. I
give them different nets (analog_GND, digital_GND, power_GND, etc.). I also tell
the software the exact point I want them to short together (``star ground'').

There are details in
  the independent Protel FAQ
  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/protel-users/files/protelfaq.html#short
.

Is there some place I could put this FAQ to make it more accessible ?
