When the cross hatching is yellow, look for a rule violation (red is OK, I believe). To control the hatching use 'Tools>Preferences>Show/Hide', then 'Draft' to remove hatching and leave the room outlines, or 'Hidden' to remove rooms altogether. I don't know of any way to do this with a particular "selected" room, however.
