Hmm, maybe the graphics card is a red herring.  This sounds like it may
be a Jet database problem.  Check that you have the latest updates on the
Jet database engine.  Look on the software updates page an Microsoft for
this.  It should be able to check your system and tell you if there is an
update
to the database.  A number of people had trouble, me included, with the
as-provided software (I don't know if that was what came with the particular
version of Windows, or if it came on the Protel CD).  Updating fixed the
trouble.
