I recently installed the trial version of DXP with SP2. I have not been
touching Protel for a couple years, but FWIW, I do not remember having this
problem in Protel 99 - it "just worked", so I cannot recall details.

I have an analog board with a few op amps that come in four packs :)
I want to annotate it - initially, all designators are U?, and I already
set correct part numbers within packages on each schematic part. There is
only one sheet. When I annotate, all part-in-package numbers reset to 1,
and designators are assigned sequential numbers. Suppose I have exactly 4
parts with the same LibRef and comment, that assigned part Ns 1,2,3 and 4,
so they are initially U?A .. U?D. I recall that P99 automagically recognized
them as belonging to a single package, and numbered them U1A..U1D. For the
life of me, I cannot remember whether I did anything special for that.

Whatever I do, DXP renumbers them as U1A...U4A.

What really amazes me is that there were no messages with a similar problem
neither on USENET not in this list; this is not mentioned in any whitepaper
or the manual that I downloaded. Usually, this is an indication that I
am either missing something ultra-obvious, or am doing something that should
not be done. :)

What is the correct way to annotate multiple parts belonging to one package?

Thanks!
