Please feel free to submit a patch. Just make sure that you understand what you are doing when you make changes and do not blindly follow the suggestions made by the Lint parser.
As they are usually incorrect and applying them directly completely breaks the program. Depending on how this patch muddles the source code, it will be accepted in or not (i.e. go for the least invasive solutions whenever you can).
