Follow-up Comment #17:
I've committed the casefile changes. A new patch against the current HEAD is
attached.
It's a lot more robust now. Apart from the discontiguous split variables
(that Ben has mentioned), I think that the only outstanding issue is missing
values which it doesn't handle at all.
I think this is a good oportunity to revisit bug #15690 so I'll carry on this
discussion there.
